Day 19 – 3D Tree

3d-tree

I woke up early this morning about 6:00 AM.  It was dark outside.  Out the window I could see cottonwood trees with the yard light shining on them.  I thought they would make an interesting picture, so I got up, went outside and started taking pictures.  My 55-300mm lens wasn’t cutting it, so I went back in and got my fast 50mm manual lens.  Focusing was a problem since I couldn’t really see much, but I kept snapping away.  Boy was I surprised when I got inside and saw some of the pictures.  The picture above has had no post processing done to it except a tiny crop, an attempt at removing a branch that was in the way and I bumped up the exposure just a bit.  The camera/lens interpreted the blue/black sky as the blue you see.  You may have to adjust your angle and it helps if your in a dark room, but the picture exhibits a 3D effect.

Day 18 – Abstract

bush

I wanted to make an attempt at an abstract type photograph today.  I pointed the camera toward the base of the bush pictured above, and took the exposure as I raised the camera up.  One of the results is below.

Day 17 – Crabapple

Here’s part of a crabapple branch against the sky, at the grounds of the Va Medical Center, in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Day 16 – Turbines

This one was taken yesterday, but I don’t have that many chances to practice shutter speed effects, so I’m going to post this one anyway.  I more than made up for my daily snap this morning.  These turbines are south of Ainsworth, Nebraska.

Day 15 – The Moon

moon

I wasn’t going to post this since technically it wasn’t taken today, but I’ve been told by a couple people I must.  Less than an hour later it would have been the 26th, so I guess I’ll acquiesce.

This shot of the moon is better than the first attempt I made a month ago.  The first time around I treated the shot as a night shot.  I jacked up the ISO and opened the aperture wide.  I ended up with an undifferentiated ball of white on a black background.  This time I treated it as a day shot.

Day 11 – Tooth

tooth

I had a tooth extracted today.  I asked the dentist if I could take it home.  He kind of chuckled and said I could.  I had a vision of placing a porcelain colored tooth, root side down on a piece of black paper, and making an exposure.  This is what I got, after he ground the crown off and split the tooth several times to get it out.
